Forensic archaeology is the application of archaeological techniques like excavation, recovery, documentation and interpretation of human activity to criminal activity and medico-legal issues. Trained professionals in forensic archaeology specialise in locating, excavating and analysing buried or hidden evidence that can be overlooked by traditional methods in events of natural or manmade disasters. Forensic archaeologists also play an important role in uncovering mass graves from past conflicts or atrocities, thereby providing closure to affected communities. The first of its kind in India, Professional Diploma in Forensic Archaeology program at National Forensic Sciences University shall focus on developing a holistic approach amongst the candidates regarding forensic casework, analysis of archaeological specimens and scene investigation in relation to the clandestine graves, mass burials and disaster sites. The program aims to build specialized skills amongst the forensic experts and professionals in the field of forensic recovery of buried remains, exhumation and scientific analysis of the remains.
